The Aberdeen Ironbirds defeated the Staten Island Yankees, 1-0, in New York-Penn League action at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Aberdeen pitcher Vicente Tapia had a standout performance. Tapia, now 3-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Aberdeen now sports a record of 32-11.

The Ironbirds got a big at-bat from left fielder Danny Sandoval. For the game, Sandoval was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Aberdeen a 1-0 lead.

"Got a lot of swings and misses today," said Tapia.
