Black Bears Pull Out Late-Game Win, 1-0
|
The State College Spikes wasted an impressive 9-inning effort from starter Mario Morales, falling, 1-0, to the West Virginia Black Bears in 10 innings at Russell Diethrick Park. The win belonged to Dave Stearns in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Dennis Galeana took the loss for State College. West Virginia currently is in 5th place in the Pinckney Division at 21-22.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 21-year old shortstop Mike Ronaldson had a real shot to win the game. State College pitcher Dennis Galeana was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Ronaldson hit a run-scoring single. The Black Bears had a walk-off triumph.
"This win should put a little bounce in our step," said Ronaldson.
