Aberdeen Ironbirds starter John Hodge turned in a top-notch performance against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Eastwood Field. The result was a win for the Ironbirds, 7-2. The winner was Hodge. He threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Paul Frey. Aberdeen now sports a record of 30-14.

Edwin Martinez had a big 3-run home run for the Ironbirds in the top of the fifth inning. With Aberdeen leading 3-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Bobby Barragan and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ironbirds ahead, 6-0.

"No weaving and bobbing. John came right after them," said Aberdeen manager Jose Sierra.
