The Auburn Doubledays did just enough to sneak past the Staten Island Yankees, 4-3, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Auburn right fielder Howie Meason, in particular, had a standout performance. The win went to Pat Nelson in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Roberto Martinez took the loss. Today's win puts Auburn at 17-27, while Staten Island falls to 22-22.

Dave Nugent came through with a big-time hit for Auburn. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"There's a lot in this game you can't control. Just take what the game gives you. I was just doing my best to help the team win," Nugent told the Auburn Herald.
