Cyclones Earn 3-2 Win Versus Black Bears
|
The bats were silent much of the day at MCU Park. But 22-year old third baseman Jason Burchell produced just enough offense to carry the Cyclones past the West Virginia Black Bears, 3-2. Burchell went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Bert Reed snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2 innings. He's now 1-1 on the season. After today's action, Brooklyn sits at 28-18, while West Virginia falls to 25-21.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Matt Gable came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing West Virginia pitcher Matt Postlethwaite, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Brooklyn on top, 3-2.
Said losing manager Alex Barahona: "We've got to find a way to push a run across."
