The Vermont Lake Monsters picked up a win at Dwyer Stadium, taking down the Batavia Muckdogs, 4-0. Starting pitcher Melvin Juarez was a big reason why. Juarez, the winner, moves to 2-4. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 3 walks. The Lake Monsters, at 20-30, sit in last place in the Stedler Division.

Dan Gates had a big solo home run for the Lake Monsters in the top of the fifth inning. With Vermont leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Ruben Casas, who is tied for 5th in the NYP with a 1.87 ERA, and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Lake Monsters on top, 2-0.

"We missed opportunities once again," said losing manager Pat Gilman.
