The Staten Island Yankees got a strong performance from pitcher Victor Varela, who stymied the Lowell offense en route to a win, 5-0, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Varela picked up the win for Staten Island, going 6.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 2-2. The win puts the Yankees at 29-22, while the Spinners drop to 26-25.

Nate Frank had a big 2-run double for the Yankees in the bottom of the first inning. With Staten Island leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Pascoal Fradessa and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 3-0.

"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Frank after the game.
