Doubledays Grind Out 2-0 Win
|
Francisco Martinez pitched well, but the Connecticut Tigers still fell short, losing, 2-0, to the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park. Carlos Pineda came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Auburn now owns a record of 26-25.
The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded and Connecticut trailing 2-0, Michael Urbanski needed to get a big out. On a first pitch sinker, Nick Bell, who is tied for 7th in the NYP with a .408 on-base percentage, grounded out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
