Aberdeen Wins, 3-2, Over Yankees
|
Staten Island got a valiant performance from pitcher Mike Zizak, but it wasn't enough to beat the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Aberdeen won the game, 3-2. Zizak threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Dave Newton was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Phil Martel. David Santana recorded the save, his 5th.
Joe Bazzani drove in one run for Aberdeen. The 22-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Phil Martel. It was his 12th RBI of the season.
"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Bazzani.
Aberdeen, now 31-20, holds down second place in the McNamara Division.
