ValleyCats Rally to Win
|
The Tri-City ValleyCats earned a close win over the Lowell Spinners, thanks in part to Rich Liverman. The Tri-City right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the NYP with a 1.88 ERA, played a key role in the 10-inning, 3-2 victory. Elard Spierenburg recorded the save for Tri-City, his 2nd of the season. The second-place ValleyCats are now 21-31, the Spinners 18-34.
Tri-City needed the clutch hitting of Carlos Martinez to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the ValleyCats on top, 3-1. For the game, Martinez had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I was a little disappointed," said Lowell manager Victor Aquino. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
