Spinners Claim 5-2 Triumph
|
The Lowell Spinners rode a solid performance from 21-year-old starting pitcher Tony de Santiago to a win, beating the Tri-City ValleyCats, 5-2, at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. de Santiago, now 3-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. John Greer closed the door for Lowell, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Jose Guillen had a big solo home run for the Spinners in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Lowell leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Dave Kennedy and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Spinners on top, 3-1.
"It's a mindset," said de Santiago. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
The Spinners now own a record of 19-34.
