Mahoning Valley pitcher John Neff did his part in helping his team beat the Auburn Doubledays, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Neff got the win, improving to 1-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. John Kline locked down his 5th save.

The Scrappers got a big at-bat from first baseman Dave Steinhart. For the game, Steinhart went 3-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 13th double of the season gave Mahoning Valley a 2-1 lead.

"That's baseball," said Auburn manager Maxwell Judson. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."

The win elevated the Scrappers to 41-13.
