Staten Island Scrapes Out 4-1 Win
The Vermont Lake Monsters got a sterling performance from pitcher Israel Salanova, but the Staten Island Yankees still prevailed, 4-1. Salanova threw 5.2 innings allowing 1 run. Staten Island reliever Jeff Tinch picked up the win to move to 2-1. Matt Johnson suffered the loss. Josh Phillips got credit for the save for Staten Island. It was his 2nd of the year.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Ryan Barrasso came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Vermont pitcher Matt Johnson, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Staten Island on top, 2-1.

"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Barrasso.

Staten Island currently is in last place in the McNamara Division at 20-35.
