ValleyCats Handle Renegades, 4-1
|
The Tri-City ValleyCats downed the Hudson Valley Renegades, 4-1. The hitting star was third baseman Jim Welch. Welch was 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the ValleyCats. The winning pitcher was Joseph Fisher. He tossed 86 pitches over 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits. Wilson Tinoco got credit for the save for Tri-City. It was his 1st of the year.
Welch contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Tri-City in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Welch took a cutter from Alex Cochrane and stroked the home run to left. His 7th home run of the season allowed the ValleyCats to leap in front, 3-1.
"It was a good effort all around," said Welch.
Tri-City has a 3-game win streak, while Hudson Valley has lost 3 in a row.
