Renegades Score Late, Clip Cyclones, 3-2
|
The Hudson Valley Renegades faced a tough opponent in Brooklyn pitcher Danny Gonzalez, but found a way to pull out the victory at Dutchess Stadium by a final score of 3-2 in 11 innings. Gonzalez went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. The win was credited to Tom McCutcheon in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Zach Bird took the loss. Hudson Valley goes to 34-21, Brooklyn to 25-30.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 24-year old second baseman Mike Gilmore had a chance to be the hero. Brooklyn pitcher Zach Bird wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Gilmore hit a sacrifice fly. The Renegades had themselves a thrilling win.
Gilmore called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
