The Staten Island Yankees weathered a fine game by Aberdeen center fielder Josh White to upend the Ironbirds, 6-2, at Ripken Stadium. White was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. The winning pitcher was 19-year old right-handed pitcher Adam Redel. He tossed 81 pitches over 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The victory puts Staten Island at 21-34.
Center Fielder Steve Reed made an impact for Staten Island, when he swatted a run-scoring double off Joel Olave in the top of the fourth. For the contest, Reed was 1-5 with a double.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Reed.
