The Aberdeen Ironbirds picked up a win at Ripken Stadium, topping the Staten Island Yankees, 3-2. On the mound for Aberdeen was right-hander Chris Spradling. He played a principal role in the triumph. Spradling yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 6-3. The first-place Ironbirds improved to 39-18.

Tied up with the Yankees in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Ironbirds got a boost from second baseman Fernando Martinez. With the bases loaded, Martinez saw a 1-0 slider from Mario Guadamuz and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Aberdeen on top, 2-1.

Martinez said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
