The West Virginia Black Bears dealt the Mahoning Valley Scrappers a 4-0 loss at Russell Diethrick Park. Jon Toro was the star on offense. He went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Mark Brooks earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 4-3. The Black Bears improved their record to 27-31 by beating Mahoning Valley.

Dennis Gustafson drove in one run for West Virginia. The 20-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Oscar Bejarano. It was his 14th RBI of the season.

"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Toro told the West Virginia Today.
