Doubledays Defeat Scrappers, 3-1
|
At Falcon Park, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Auburn Doubledays were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Auburn Doubledays converted a terrific effort from starter Luis Hernandez into a win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Falcon Park. The Doubledays won the game by a final score of 3-1. Hernandez, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up no walks. Earning his 1st save of the year was Kevin Banks.
Jimmy Wells had a big solo home run for the Doubledays in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Auburn leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from J.P. O'Kelley, who is tied for 4th in the NYP with a 0.97 WHIP, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Doubledays on top, 3-1.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Mahoning Valley manager Ramiro Tobar. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
Auburn is now 27-34, Mahoning Valley 39-22.
