John Hodge pitched well, but his team, the Aberdeen Ironbirds, still dropped a 4-2 decision to the Vermont Lake Monsters at Ripken Stadium. Wayne Martino, the winning pitcher, is now 2-2. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 2. Vermont goes to 25-37, Aberdeen to 41-21.

The Ironbirds had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Lake Monsters going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old left fielder Danny Greenfield came to the plate. Greenfield hit a solo home run on a 2-2 fastball from Aberdeen hurler John Hodge. It was Greenfield's 13th home run of the year.

Vermont manager Dana Joseph commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
