Staten Island starter Bart Brown pitched well against the Aberdeen Ironbirds at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a win, 2-0. Tony Vargas sewed up the save, his 6th. Staten Island, at 33-30, sits in second place in the McNamara Division.

The Yankees got a big at-bat from third baseman Willie Martinez. For the game, Martinez went 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 4th double of the season gave Staten Island a 2-0 lead.

"I felt good out of the gates," said Brown.
