The Staten Island Yankees beat the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 3-1. Staten Island pitcher and Blackstone, Virginia, native Russ Williams led the way. The winner was Williams. He threw 6.1 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Vince McMillion. Tony Austin closed it out for Staten Island, earning his 2nd save.
Joe McPaul provided a timely hit. The Staten Island second baseman delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the sixth inning to put the Yankees on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"We'll pocket this win," said McPaul, "and then go after another."
Staten Island is now 37-26, Aberdeen 37-26.
