Lake Monsters Stun Ironbirds, 5-3
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Vermont Lake Monsters and Aberdeen Ironbirds.
Vermont center fielder Brian Phillips contributed to his team's 5-3 win over the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Phillips went 1 for 1 with no runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Lake Monsters. Vermont reliever Malik Olds was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Eric Savage. Matt Trosclair, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities.
Phillips had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-0 cutter from Eric Savage, he banged a 2-run double to left, giving the Lake Monsters a 5-3 lead. It was the 13th double of the year for Phillips.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Phillips told the Vermont Times.
The victory gives Vermont a record of 44-21.
