Win Makes Black Bears 34-31
|
The West Virginia Black Bears weathered an outstanding game by Mahoning Valley left fielder Kevin Dillhoff to topple the Scrappers, 6-5. Dillhoff was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The win was credited to Carlos Mondragon in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Elijah Mitchell took the loss. West Virginia is now 34-31.
Frank McClellan had a big 2-run double for the Black Bears in the bottom of the second inning. With West Virginia trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Ruben Borilla and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Bears ahead, 2-1.
"It's not about individual awards," McClellan told a West Virginia Observer reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
