Flying Squirrels Deal Thunder 1-0 Defeat
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels did just enough to sneak past the Trenton Thunder, 1-0, at The Diamond. Richmond pitcher Zach Chapman, in particular, had a standout performance. Chapman picked up the win for Richmond, going 6.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Jules Hickman earned the save for Richmond, his 5th of the year.
The Flying Squirrels got a lift from designated hitter Josh Layne, who in the bottom of the third stroked a full count sinker into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 19th hit of the season and put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 1-0.
"Anytime I can help the team, I feel good about it," said Layne.
The loss drops the Thunder to 6-14.
