Dwyer Stadium hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.

The State College Spikes earned a close win over the Batavia Muckdogs, thanks in part to Sam Stratton. The State College right-hander, who is tied for 8th in the NYP with a 1.07 WHIP, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Jorge Maldonado recorded the save for State College, his 1st of the season.

The Spikes got a big at-bat from shortstop Juan Bello. For the game, Bello went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 5th home run of the season gave State College a 1-0 lead.

"Tough loss," said Batavia manager Jake Landen. "But we'll learn from it."

The win gives State College a season record of 35-31.
