ValleyCats Beat Lake Monsters, 5-1
|
The Tri-City ValleyCats topped the Vermont Lake Monsters, 5-1, in New York-Penn League action at Centennial Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Tri-City first baseman Ryuichiro Sato. Riley Fitzmaurice, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 9 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 6-5. Rich Liverman picked up the save, his 5th.
Brian Giltner had a big 2-run triple for the ValleyCats in the top of the third inning. With Tri-City leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Xavier Davis, who is tied for 8th in the NYP in quality starts with 7, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the ValleyCats ahead, 4-1.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Sato. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
The ValleyCats are now 32-35.
