4-1 Win Gets Connecticut to 45-23
|
The Connecticut Tigers got a good effort from starter Jose Ruiz in defeating the Vermont Lake Monsters at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. The final score was 4-1. In 6.1 innings, Ruiz surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Edgar Salas, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Jorge Alvarez. For the game, Alvarez went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Connecticut a 3-1 lead.
"It's so much easier when you throw good pitches," said Ruiz.
With the win, Connecticut pushed its record to 45-23.
