At Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, the State College Spikes and West Virginia Black Bears were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Boosted by the 4-hit performance of Bubba Kirby, who is tied for 3rd in the NYP with a .372 on-base percentage, the West Virginia Black Bears defeated the State College Spikes, 5-0. Manny Mejia, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-4. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and no runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3.

West Virginia designated hitter Danny Almaraz contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a splitter to left-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Black Bears ahead, 3-0.

"We played hard and won," said Kirby. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

The loss makes State College 35-33.
