Scrappers Win Squeaker, 4-3, Over Crosscutters
|
Williamsport got a terrific performance from pitcher Nick Carson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Mahoning Valley won the Bowman Field contest, 4-3. Carson threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Steve Lester picked up the win in relief. Sam May took the loss for Williamsport. With this game in the books, Mahoning Valley is 24-45, Williamsport 37-33.
Mahoning Valley needed the clutch hitting of Carlos Alverio to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Scrappers on top, 4-3. For the game, Alverio had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"This is a great group to be a part of, and it's a big win for us," Alverio told the Mahoning Valley Observer.
