Staten Island starter Matthew Berning put a stranglehold on the Connecticut offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Yankees to a 2-0 win. Chris Gowland was called on to finish, recording his 6th save. The Yankees raised their record to 33-37.

The Tigers had trouble solving Berning, who surrendered no runs on 5 hits over 8 innings.

"That was a really good outing by Matthew," said Staten Island manager Erik Bowman.
