State College Topples Auburn, 3-1
|
The State College Spikes and Auburn Doubledays played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
State College Spikes starter Davey Smeets turned in a top-notch performance against the Auburn Doubledays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The result was a win for the Spikes, 3-1. Smeets got the win, improving to 6-9. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. Smeets allowed 1 run. Pat McLaughlin nailed down his 9th save.
The Spikes got a big at-bat from designated hitter Han-seung Chung. For the game, Chung was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave State College a 2-0 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said State College manager Mike Stanton. "It's usually not just one thing."
State College now sits in third place in the Pinckney Division at 27-45.
