The State College Spikes topped the Auburn Doubledays, 4-1, in New York-Penn League action at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of State College pitcher Tom Moppert. Nate Dickel locked down his 4th save. The first-place Spikes hiked their record to 46-27.
Brandon Wiggs had a big solo home run for the Spikes in the bottom of the fourth inning. With State College leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a sinker from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Ryushin Grattan and swatted a home run to right. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Spikes ahead, 3-1.
State College manager Paul Thomas commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
