Yankees Suffer 6-2 Home Defeat
|
Tri-City took on Staten Island in front of a lively crowd.
The Tri-City ValleyCats picked up a win at Richmond County Bank Ballpark, knocking off the Staten Island Yankees, 6-2. On the mound for Tri-City was right-hander Cory Gonzalez. He played a key role in the triumph. Gonzalez, now 9-4, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Luis Hernandez was credited with the save for Tri-City, his 3rd of the season.
Casimir Lewczak had a big 2-run home run for the ValleyCats in the top of the sixth inning. With Tri-City leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher David Harris and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the ValleyCats on top, 4-1.
Said losing manager Tyler Ebert: "Give the ValleyCats credit. They played a better game than we did."
The ValleyCats have an impressive 54-19 record.
