The Vermont Lake Monsters topped the Tri-City ValleyCats, 6-4, with youngster Sal Pena playing a key role. Pena was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Lake Monsters in the win. Cesar Salazar earned save number 1 this season. The Lake Monsters saw their record improve to 28-45.

Tommy Rancourt had a timely hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no one out and the bases loaded, the Vermont catcher hit a run-scoring single. That put the Lake Monsters in front, 4-3.

"We're producers not directors," said Pena. "Produce a good swing. Can't direct where it goes."
