The Fort Wayne TinCaps topped the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 3-2, in Midwest League action at Parkview Field. The standout performance belonged to Fort Wayne pitcher and Phoenix, Arizona, native Jon Miller. The winner was Miller. He threw 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was Mike Chase. Fort Wayne is now 72-63, while Bowling Green is 68-67.
The Hot Rods had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the TinCaps going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Andrew Beard came to the plate. Beard hit a run-scoring double on a 1-0 fastball from Bowling Green hurler Mike Chase. It was Beard's 26th double of the year.
"It was a hard game, a hard night," said Bowling Green skipper Ernesto Torre.
