The Dayton Dragons besoiled an otherwise fine performance by South Bend designated hitter Ed Medina by beating the Cubs, 9-5, at Fifth Third Field. Medina was 2-5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Dayton, at 64-72, occupies 7th place in the Eastern Division.

Francisco Reyes had a timely hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out and the bases loaded, the Dayton third baseman hit a 2-run single. That put the Dragons in front, 7-5.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Reyes said after the game.
