Cubs Nip Lugnuts, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring affair between the South Bend Cubs and the Lansing Lugnuts, pitcher Clint Madore was the difference between victory and defeat. The South Bend left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 1-0 Cubs win. Madore, now 6-6, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 10, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Shane Baggett finished the game for South Bend and earned his 15th save.
Adam McCloskey had a direct impact on the outcome. McCloskey contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the sixth inning to put South Bend up, 1-0.
"Clint was really on it," said South Bend manager Roy Ofstad. "He's got a feel for playing with the hitter front-to-back, side-to-side."
The 6th-place Cubs have a record of 60-76.
