Cubs Beat Dragons, 2-1
|
The South Bend Cubs and Dayton Dragons completed their game despite the inclement weather.
The South Bend Cubs got a magnificent performance from pitcher Brandon Banks, who muffled the Dayton offense en route to a tight 2-1 Cubs win at Fifth Third Field. Banks got the win, improving to 1-3. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.2 innings. Banks allowed 1 run. Jim Unknown earned the save for South Bend, his 1st of the year.
Harry Martz, the 24-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Martz contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fourth inning to put South Bend up, 2-0.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Martz.
South Bend is now 35-101, Dayton 62-74.
