Canadians Drop 3-1 Decision
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Boise Hawks and the Vancouver Canadians. Boise won it, 3-1. Boise starter Michio Ono was in command. Ono, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The Canadians fall to 4-8 and continue their lackluster start in 2108.
Juan Alvarez had a big 2-run home run for the Hawks in the bottom of the third inning. With Boise leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Denny Gurganus and swatted a home run to left. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hawks ahead, 3-0.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Ono.
