Braves Fall, 6-1, to Everett
|
The exploits of first baseman Joel Maxwell, who is tied for 9th in the NWL in extra base hits with 26, helped the Everett AquaSox defeat the Atlanta (SS-A) Braves, 6-1. Maxwell was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. John Sanborn closed the door for Everett, picking up his 5th save of the year. With the win, Everett upped its record to 41-34.
Maxwell contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Everett in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Maxwell took a fastball from Mark Lemke and stroked the home run to left. His 4th home run of the season allowed the AquaSox to leap in front, 3-1.
"Enjoyed this one," Maxwell told the Everett Citizen. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
