Eugene shortstop Ben Hoopes had 3 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Minnesota (SS-A) Twins, 8-6. Eugene reliever Victor Mercado was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Santos Bueno took the loss. The Emeralds, now 17-3, have won 7 in a row.

Eugene got a knockout punch from Curt Everett. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"I believe in our guys," said Eugene skipper Santos Nunez. "I like the energy they're playing with."
