Kansas City (SS-A) got a terrific game from second baseman Jeff Graves. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Eugene, 9-5, in 10 innings. Graves was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Eugene now owns a record of 15-5.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Rich Vargas came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Kansas City (SS-A) pitcher Rich de la Cruz, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Eugene on top, 6-5.

Said Emeralds manager Josh Ruzic: "We're playing a good brand of baseball."
