Hops Hold Off Reds, 5-4
|
Due in large part to right fielder Bryant Buckles, the Hillsboro Hops sunk the Cincinnati (SS-A) Reds, 5-4. Buckles went 2-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win went to Dan Morgan in relief, making him now 1-0. Jorge Noriega took the loss for Cincinnati (SS-A). Dan Rainwater picked up the save for Hillsboro, his 2nd of the year.
With Hillsboro leading 1-0 in the top of the second, Buckles hit a changeup from Jorge Noriega for a grand slam home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Hops ahead, 5-0.
"We were the better team," crowed Buckles.
The second-place Reds dropped to 12-8.
