Cornell, Brewers Beat Emeralds, 7-2
|
Justin Cornell impressed in the 7-2 Milwaukee (SS-A) win over Eugene. Cornell, who is tied for 3rd in the NWL in home runs with 5, went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Ricardo Pintor snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 4.2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. The save went to Sacha de Haan, number 2 for him.
Milwaukee (SS-A) used the timely hitting of Julian Cabrera to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Brewers on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We came in and did what we needed to do," said Milwaukee (SS-A) manager Ben Schorn.
Milwaukee (SS-A), at 9-15, sits in last place in the South Division.
