Volcanoes Stop Dust Devils, 5-1
|
Salem-Keizer starter Alex Cuenca had a strong outing against the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-1 win. Cuenca, now 2-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Bobby Adams earned the save for Salem-Keizer, his 3rd of the year.
The Volcanoes got a big at-bat from left fielder Preston Wholey. For the game, Wholey was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Salem-Keizer a 1-0 lead.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Salem-Keizer skipper Josh McAdams. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
After today's action, Salem-Keizer sits at 16-12; Tri-City slips to 16-13.
