The Minnesota (SS-A) Twins defeated the Boise Hawks, 5-3, in Northwest League action at Memorial Stadium. Minnesota (SS-A) pitcher Steve Piper had a standout performance. The winner was Piper. He threw 5.0 innings of 0-hit ball. The loser was Brad Hurst. At 11-19, Minnesota (SS-A) is in third place in the North Division.
It could have been a different outcome for Minnesota (SS-A), had it not been for Clark Poch, the 26-year old second baseman . Poch contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Minnesota (SS-A) up, 2-0.
