Emeralds Get One-Run Win at Los Angeles A (SS-A)
|
The Eugene Emeralds topped the Los Angeles A (SS-A) Angels, 2-1, in Northwest League action at Oxnard Grounds. The game was highlighted by the performance of Eugene pitcher Matt Hale. Hale got the win, improving to 5-0. He gave up 3 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. Tim Ulfig finished the game for Eugene and earned his 5th save.
The Angels had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Emeralds going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old center fielder Rich Beamis came to the plate. Beamis hit a solo home run on a first pitch fastball from Los Angeles A (SS-A) hurler Ricky Medina. It was Beamis's 5th home run of the year.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Hale said.
Eugene's record now stands at 20-11, placing them first in the West Division.
