Emeralds Score Late to Win, 2-1
|
Milwaukee (SS-A) pitcher Jon Will gave the Emeralds all they could handle, but in the end, Eugene left Ballpark of Fremont with a win, 2-1. Will allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 6.1 innings. The winner was Eugene reliever Dan Petti, now 2-2. The loser was Hector Areyan. The win elevated the Emeralds to 19-18.
Jesus Castaneda came through with a big-time hit for Eugene. The first baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Runs were at a premium," said Eugene manager Valentino Garzelli.
