In a tight affair between the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and the Minnesota (SS-A) Twins, pitcher Bill Laird was in the zone. The Salem-Keizer right-hander helped his team win the game, 1-0. Juan Talamantes, who leads the NWL in saves with 8, earned the save for Salem-Keizer. The win makes Salem-Keizer 26-15.

It was an impressive outing from the soft-spoken Laird, who tallied 7 strikeouts in 6.1 innings and allowed only 2 hits. Laird raised his record to 1-0 on the year with 7 strikeouts.

"Bill -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Volcanoes manager Brian Johnson. "He was the key to us winning."
