Braves Lose Late to Emeralds
Roberto Fernandez, who leads the NWL in wins with 7, had a strong outing for the Eugene Emeralds against the Atlanta (SS-A) Braves at PK Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. David Joplin, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The win elevated the Emeralds to 32-13.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Adam Laffin came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Atlanta (SS-A) pitcher Elvis Alvarado, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Eugene on top, 4-3.

"I just made my pitches," said Fernandez, "and the ball kept missing the bat."
