Minnesota (SS-A) pitcher Matt Melland did his part in helping his team beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Melland got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Melland allowed 2 runs. Jon Perkins collected his 4th save.

Minnesota (SS-A) used a well-timed hit by Chris Scott to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Twins ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Salem-Keizer skipper Josh McAdams.

The last-place Twins improved to 20-27.
