Sam Roy led the Oakland (AZL) Athletics to a shutout victory, 1-0, over the Los Angeles A (AZL) Angels at Papago Park Sports Facility.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Roy recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

Roy yielded 7 hits and had 12 strikeouts and 3 walks in the standout performance.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Los Angeles A (AZL) manager Mike O'Reilly said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

His record for the year is 2-1 in 4 starts and Roy has a 1.84 ERA.
