Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Kansas City (AZL) Royals and Cleveland (AZL) Guardians.

Cleveland (AZL) got a decent performance from pitcher Ryan DiPonio, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City (AZL) Royals. Kansas City (AZL) won the Indians Developmental Complex contest, 5-4. DiPonio threw 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Steve Barney earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 1-0. The save went to Javier Mendez, his 1st this season.

It could have been a different outcome for Kansas City (AZL), had it not been for Rafael Avila, the 20-year old center fielder . Avila contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Kansas City (AZL) up, 5-4.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Cleveland (AZL) manager Rodrigo Moreno. "The effort was great."

Kansas City (AZL), now 13-5, holds down first place in the West Division.
